The BIBLIVRE is a form of free software capable of providing digital inclusion, considering that a large number of public libraries is not yet computerized, for technical and financial issues, and most of the public which is the universe of users of libraries public is not familiar with the use of resources of the current technologies in libraries of the modern world.
The project is characterized by the development of free programs offered, without charge, to libraries wishing to use this technology. The system is licensed free under GPLv3 - General Public License by the Free Software Foundation, so that it can be spread in a comprehensive way, and ensuring freedom for its users to copy them, use them and redistribute them. Although the programs are holders of their copyrights, the copyright license is intended to ensure that users have the right to obtain the source codes of programs to study them, modify them and redistribute them.
The BIBLIVRE emphasizes routines and subroutines of the main procedures performed in libraries, such as research, circulation, by controlling access to consultation, the reservation, loan and return of copies of the collection, cataloging library materials of multimedia and digital objects, including the control of authorities and vocabulary, in addition to the routine control of the acquisition of new items to the collection.
The administration interface BIBLIVRE still allows the management of the typology of users, access permissions and user friendliness, the Z39.50 server configuration and characteristics of the program.
Maintenance of the system provides for the indexing of databases, the transfer of records between databases and generating backup master database.
There is a list of preformatted reports available for printing or writing files generated by the system.
The BIBLIVRE is undoubtedly a great contribution technology aligned with the philosophy of free software, which has been expanding its space in front of closed source software. The Biblivre currently is installed in over 1500 libraries across the country.
